Sorry that I have not posted in awhile. Several times I have wanted to update my blog with pictures and fun stories from the FANTASTIC summer I am having. I still hope to do that but I think I'll summarize at the end of the summer :)
First off, I am in Harrisburg, PA for an internship at Highmark. I have been here for a week and still have another two weeks to go! It is going well so far. I am helping out one of the R.D.'s (Registered Dietician) on staff and seeing what her job is like. There are many different areas of nutrition and her job would be considered worksite wellness. Promoting health and wellness is her first priority among the Highmark employees as well as other clients. I have been helping her by being a second eye in reading and editing some articles, working on projects, researching wellness programs, etc. I really enjoy meeting the different clients and sitting in on meetings and learning where they are at as they are implementing wellness programs in their workplace. While I am here, I will also have the opportunity to learn from a dietician in food service (Giant Foods), a Clinical dietician, and a dietician who works in a private practice.
Yesterday, as I was sitting in Highmark working on a project, I was reminded of this verse in Isaiah 55 "'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways' declares the Lord." (vs. 8) I had received a text from Lauren Channell in which she asked if I would be interested in taking over some hours at her current job. She will be leaving in August for PT school and her boss is looking for replacements; someone who could give a few hours every week. What an amazing opportunity! Lately I have been so discouraged about my grades and whether or not I'll be able to get a dietetic internship after college. I know and have been told that I need experience in the field of nutrition to be considered for an dietetic internship. The Highmark internship was such an answer to prayer and they came to me! I didn't go searching for it or nothing. And now this! A paying job with flexible hours which provides relevant experience for my major. God is SO BIG! My grades may tell me that I'm far from getting an internship after college, but God has other thoughts and plans. He has blessed me with these unique opportunities to better learn and gain experience. And what an opportunity for me to share His glory!
I am so excited for these opportunities and what I will learn through them. And not just in the field of nutrition but also about God! I am constantly reminded of how wonderful He is and how He has a unique and special plan for my life. He holds the future!
"I can do everything through him who gives me strength." -Philippians 4:13
